According to its official website, Airwallex is a financial platform offering payments, treasury and spend management to global businesses and says it serves more than 675,000 businesses directly or through platform customers. The site says the group was founded in Melbourne in 2015, operates a dual-headquarters model spanning Singapore and San Francisco, and has 27 offices and more than 85 licences and registrations. Services in the United Kingdom are provided by London-registered Airwallex (UK) Limited; according to the site footer it is an authorised Electronic Money Institution regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) (FRN 900876), and customer funds are safeguarded in line with local regulations. Services are for businesses only: multi-currency business accounts that receive funds in more than 20 currencies, international transfers to more than 200 countries at interbank rates, corporate cards, expense management and bill pay, payment acceptance through online checkout, payment links, e-commerce plugins and in-person POS with more than 160 local payment methods, invoicing and subscription billing, and APIs that let platforms build their own financial products. The banking platform is said to be provided in partnership with licensed banks. The group's Australian entity AIRWALLEX PTY LTD (AFSL 487221) holds an AFS licence from ASIC.
