According to its official website, CurrencyFair is a company founded in Ireland in 2010 that offers an online cross-border payment and foreign exchange service to customers globally; the site says it has on-boarded more than 200,000 customers and has offices in Ireland, Australia, the United Kingdom, Singapore and Hong Kong. Personal and business customers can send money to more than 150 countries in more than 20 currencies and use multi-currency accounts and rate alerts; businesses are offered a Xero integration. The site says a flat fee of EUR 3 (or currency equivalent) is charged per transfer and that a margin, varying by currency but typically around 0.53%, is added to currency exchanges. The parent company is CurrencyFair Limited in Dublin, a payment institution regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland (CBI). In Australia the service is provided by Sydney-based CurrencyFair Australia Pty Ltd (AFSL 402709), of which CurrencyFair Limited is a corporate authorised representative. In Singapore, CurrencyFair (Singapore) Pte Ltd is a MAS-licensed Major Payment Institution and in Hong Kong CurrencyFair Asia Limited is a Money Service Operator; accounts for UK residents are provided by Moorwand Ltd. Across the complaints, allegations that transfers were delayed or held for days, recipients receiving less than the confirmed amount, and exchange rates and intermediary bank deductions stand out.
