According to its official website, Cuscal has played a foundational role in Australia's payments ecosystem since 1966 and describes itself as the country's largest independent provider of end-to-end payments; it says it combines the licensing, infrastructure and regulatory oversight of an authorised deposit-taking institution (ADI) with the agility of a fintech. It was established in 1992 as Credit Union Services Corporation Australia Limited, renamed Cuscal Limited in 2006 and listed on the Australian Securities Exchange on 25 November 2024 (ASX: CCL). It does not serve retail customers; it provides banks, mutual banks, fintechs, superannuation funds and corporates with real-time payments (NPP, PayTo), card issuing, acquiring, settlement and reconciliation, fraud monitoring, digital wallets and regulated data services under the Consumer Data Right (CDR). The site states that it launched the digital bank 86 400 in 2019 and sold it to NAB in 2021, acquired a controlling interest in Basiq, and acquired Indue Limited and, in 2026, Paymark.
