According to its official website, Global Exchange is a non-bank financial institution operated by Global Exchange Ltd (trading as Smart Money) that provides international money transfers and currency exchange from the United Kingdom. The site says operations started on 5 April 1995 at 54 Ealing Road, Wembley, that the company later opened three more branches and that it focuses mainly on the Sri Lanka corridor. Customers can send money to more than 40 countries by bank deposit or cash pickup through the website, the mobile app or the branches; payment is made by bank transfer or by debit card through Worldpay. Services include same-day transfers, buying and selling currency, overseas payments for businesses, SWIFT payments and help with opening bank accounts in Sri Lanka. The site says the company is registered in England and Wales under number 03042398, is authorised and regulated by the FCA as an authorised payment institution (576032) and is registered with HMRC as a money service business (12114995); customer funds are said to be safeguarded in segregated accounts. Across the complaints, branch staff attitude, being unable to get through by phone, an unanswered ID renewal process and an undelivered transfer stand out.
