According to its official website, Shieldpay is a London-based payments company founded in 2016 by its founder Peter Janes to make complex payments simple and secure, starting with a digital escrow service. The site presents it as an FCA-regulated legal payments platform for UK law firms; its services are aimed at business clients, mainly law firms. Its main solutions are payment distribution in mergers and acquisitions (M&A), compensation payouts in group litigation, conditional fund holding (escrow), paying agent services for payments to multiple payees and third-party managed accounts (Payment Account / TPMA) offered as an alternative to traditional client accounts; real estate, construction and conveyancing transactions are also listed as use cases.
