According to its official website, Ecology Building Society was founded in 1981 by a group of pioneers in West Yorkshire to finance environmental building renovations and support sustainable housing; its first office was in Cross Hills and it is now based in Silsden, and it says it has supported over 5,000 projects. It lends for homes and projects with a positive impact on people, communities and the planet, funded by simple, transparent savings accounts. Lending includes self-build, renovation, conversion, eco-home, shared ownership, community living and affordable local homes mortgages, plus commercial mortgages for charities, community groups, community-led housing and housing developers. Savings include easy access, single and double access and notice accounts, Cash ISAs and community impact savers; the Easy Access Account opens with at least GBP 25. Accounts are opened and managed online and through the Ecology app. According to the Bank of England list and the FCA register, it is authorised by the PRA and regulated by the FCA and the PRA; the site states that eligible deposits are protected up to a total of GBP 120,000 by the FSCS.
