According to its official website, Kotak Mahindra Bank is the flagship company of the Mumbai-based Kotak Mahindra Group. The group traces its roots to Kotak Capital Management Finance Ltd, established in 1985; in 2003 Kotak Mahindra Finance Ltd became the first non-banking finance company in India to convert into a commercial bank. The group provides commercial banking, stock broking, mutual funds, insurance and investment banking, with international offices in London, New York, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Mauritius and Singapore. The bank's first overseas branch was opened in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).
