According to its official website, Mandla Money is a mobile money service that turns a phone number into a wallet and lets people send, receive and store money over WhatsApp, SMS or USSD without needing a smartphone or a bank account. Services are provided by Mandla Money (Pty) Ltd (company no 2019/470624/07), an FSCA-authorised financial services provider (FSP 55523) and crypto asset service provider (CASP), registered with the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) as an accountable institution (76060). The wallet can hold digital dollars (USDC, USDT, RLUSD), a digital rand (ZARU), South African rand, XLM and XRP side by side; users can make peer-to-peer and cross-border transfers, swap currencies, cash in and out at partner agents and pay for airtime and electricity. For organisations it offers bulk payouts, payroll, NGO disbursements, OTC markets and API integration. The company says it is not a bank, that transfers between Mandla wallets are free and that bank transfer withdrawals are coming soon; it reports awards and grants from the Ripple and XRPL ecosystem.
