According to Visa's official developer documentation, Visa Payments Limited (VPL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Visa. It accepts payout instructions and funds from Visa Direct clients or originating entities and sends the payout through its network partners to the recipient's financial institution, wallet operator or wallet aggregator; in the Visa Direct for Account service, cross-border payouts to bank accounts are delivered by VPL through local funds transfer schemes. Visa Direct is a platform for banks, fintechs and businesses to send, receive, convert and hold funds domestically and cross-border to cards, accounts and digital wallets; the Visa website says it covers more than 160 currencies and more than 190 markets. The service is aimed at business clients contracted with Visa, not at individuals. The company was formerly called Earthport; according to Companies House it was incorporated in 1997 and took the name Visa Payments Limited in 2020. Its registered office is 1 Sheldon Square, London.
