According to its official website, Afin Bank is a London-based UK bank set up to make saving and borrowing simple and fair. It is backed by WAICA Reinsurance Corporation Plc (WAICA Re), a reinsurer with subsidiaries in Ghana, Kenya and Zimbabwe. Afin Bank serves groups it says traditional banks overlook, such as self-employed people, contractors, foreign nationals, diaspora communities and high-net-worth customers. For savers it offers 1, 2, 3 and 5-year fixed term accounts and a notice account, each taking a minimum of 1,000 and a maximum of 200,000 pounds, managed only through its mobile app. For borrowers it offers first-time buyer, home mover, remortgage and buy-to-let mortgages, plus high-net-worth lending and bridging finance through intermediaries. The site says eligible deposits are protected by the FSCS up to 120,000 pounds. According to the Bank of England list and the FCA register, Afin Bank Limited is authorised by the PRA to accept deposits and is regulated by the FCA and the PRA. This information is the company's own statement.

Across the complaints, identity documents rejected at account opening, a long phone wait and problems with the app-only service stand out.
