According to its official website, Bank of Africa United Kingdom plc is an Africa-focused international wholesale investment bank that was launched in 2007 as Medicapital Bank PLC, renamed BMCE Bank International Plc on 1 September 2010 and given its current name on 1 November 2021. The bank is part of the BANK OF AFRICA – BMCE Group, which has banking subsidiaries in 18 African countries; it is headquartered in London and has a branch in Paris, France. It operates exclusively in wholesale, corporate and investment banking, serving institutions, corporates and investors engaged in African markets with term and revolving loans, infrastructure, asset-backed and receivables-backed financing, syndicated loans, letters of credit and trade finance, and foreign exchange and credit trading. The site states that it does not offer services to individual customers in the UK and that new deposits from individuals are no longer accepted at its French branch. According to the Bank of England list and the FCA register, the bank is authorised by the PRA and regulated by the FCA and the PRA; the site states that eligible deposits held in London are protected by the FSCS.
