According to its official website, Bank of Ceylon (UK) Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of Bank of Ceylon, Sri Lanka's first state-owned commercial bank, founded in 1939. The parent opened its first overseas branch in London in 1949; after operating as a branch for 60 years it was converted into a fully fledged UK subsidiary in 2010, and the bank celebrated 75 years of presence in the UK in 2024. From its single office in London it provides wholesale banking, trade finance, correspondent banking and treasury (foreign exchange) services, as well as buy-to-let, commercial and mixed-use property loans, secured overdrafts and cash-back loans against deposits. It offers personal current, savings, children's (Junior Saver) and fixed term deposit accounts and business current and fixed deposit accounts; money can be sent to Sri Lanka through its RemitWire service. According to the Bank of England list and the FCA register, the bank is authorised by the PRA and regulated by the FCA and the PRA; the site states that deposits are protected up to GBP 120,000 by the FSCS.
