According to its official website, Bank of us is a trading name of B&E Ltd and Tasmania's only customer-owned bank. The site traces its origins to the Launceston Equitable Building and Investment Society, launched in January 1870, and the Bass Building Society, founded in Devonport in 1968; the two merged to form the Bass & Equitable Building Society, which changed its name to B&E in November 2001 and became Bank of us on 1 November 2017. The bank says it follows the Customer Owned Banking Code of Practice and uses its profits for the benefit of customers rather than external shareholders. Its products include savings accounts (including Spring Load), term deposits from a minimum of 5,000 AUD, home loans and accredited lending under the Tasmanian Government's MyHome programme.
