According to its official website, BLME (Bank of London and The Middle East plc) is an independent Sharia'a-compliant UK bank that was incorporated in August 2006 as United House of Britain PLC by its initial sponsor Boubyan Bank and took its current name after receiving a banking licence from the UK Financial Services Authority (FSA) in July 2007. It is the principal subsidiary of the BLME Holdings group, 72.08% owned by Boubyan Bank as of 31 December 2023; its headquarters are in Canary Wharf, London, and it has a branch in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) authorised by the DFSA and a subsidiary in Riyadh, BLME Capital Company, authorised by the Saudi CMA. It offers real estate-focused wealth management, private banking, buy-to-let property finance, real estate investment and finance, business finance (leasing) and fixed term (Premier Deposit) and notice deposit accounts; in July 2021 it launched Nomo, a digital Islamic bank for customers in Kuwait and the UAE. According to the Bank of England list and the FCA register, the bank is authorised by the PRA and regulated by the FCA and the PRA; the site states that eligible deposits are protected up to a total of GBP 120,000 by the FSCS.
