According to its official website, Coinbase is a cryptocurrency platform offering crypto trading, staking, custody and spending services, and says that in April 2021 it became the largest publicly traded crypto company in the world; the site says it operates in more than 100 countries and has more than 4,700 employees. The UK company CB Payments Ltd (London, The Scalpel), listed in the FCA register with the website www.coinbase.com, is an Authorised Electronic Money Institution and, according to the register, has also been registered as a cryptoasset firm under the Money Laundering Regulations (MLRs) since 3 Feb 2025; MLR registration is an anti-money-laundering registration, not an investment-services licence. The UK site presents crypto trading with GBP deposits, Advanced Trade with more order types and TradingView charts, crypto staking, Coinbase One membership, a Visa debit card and an interest-bearing savings account powered by ClearBank; it says DEX software is provided by Coinbase Bermuda Technologies Ltd, which is not regulated by the FCA. According to an FCA press release dated 25 Jul 2024, CB Payments Ltd was fined £3,503,546 for repeatedly breaching a voluntary requirement that prevented it from taking on high-risk customers. This information is the company's own statement.

The complaint distribution is based on the latest 1-star reviews on Coinbase's Trustpilot page (81) and Şikayetvar (46) records as of 8 October 2026; one person's reviews count once, and records about fake sites and third parties using the Coinbase name are left out. Across the complaints, allegations that transfers and withdrawals were held, that accounts were restricted or closed, and complaints about repeated identity verification requests stand out.
