According to its official website, Nationwide Building Society is a mutual building society owned by its members rather than shareholders and describes itself as the only major banking provider that doesn't answer to shareholders; it says it has more than 16 million members and 605 branches across the UK. Its head office is at Nationwide House, Swindon.
