According to its official website, Swansea Building Society was founded as a mutual building society in 1923 to help working people save and, by pooling those savings, buy a home of their own. It says it is one of only three remaining mutual building societies in Wales and the only building society or bank headquartered in West Wales; its principal objective is lending secured on residential property, particularly in South Wales, funded by personal savings. It has branches in Swansea, Mumbles, Carmarthen and Cowbridge. It offers online instant access and 90 day notice accounts, cash ISAs, a regular saver, a First Adult Saver for ages 18–40, a Young Saver, a Junior ISA and business accounts; its mortgages include buy-to-let, holiday let, self-employed, high net worth, smallholding and second home lending, with applications taken face to face or by phone. Accounts are managed through the MyAccounts online service and the mobile app; the Instant Access Saver can be opened with GBP 1.
