According to its official website, Teachers' Building Society was founded in 1966 to help teachers get onto the property ladder and opened for business in London on 1 December 1966; it has been based in Wimborne, Dorset, since 1974. It says it is a mutual organisation answerable to its members, the customers who borrow from or save with it, rather than shareholders, and that it resisted demutualisation attempts in the 1990s. It uses members' collective savings to support mortgage lending; its savings accounts are open to savers of any profession, alongside teacher-only accounts, corporate and charity accounts and accounts for SIPP and SSAS pension schemes. Its mortgages include first-time buyer mortgages for teachers, remortgages, holiday lets and shared ownership. Accounts are accessed through the member login (online.teachersbs.co.uk); the Easy Access Savings for Everyone account can be opened with GBP 100. According to the Bank of England list and the FCA register, it is authorised by the PRA and regulated by the FCA and the PRA; the site states that eligible deposits are protected by the FSCS up to GBP 120,000. SOURCES REVIEWED

The complaint distribution is based on the 1-star reviews on the Teachers' Building Society Trustpilot page (4) as of 8 October 2026; one person's reviews count once, and records about fake sites and third parties using the Teachers' Building Society name are left out. Across the complaints, slow mortgage applications, outdated paper-based systems and an ISA transfer that took months stand out.
