According to its official website, Bank of Taiwan was established on 20 May 1946 as Taiwan's first government-owned bank; its predecessor, Bank of Taiwan Kabushiki-gaisha, was founded in 1899. The bank operates under the administration of the Ministry of Finance, has been a subsidiary of Taiwan Financial Holdings since 2008 and is headquartered in Taipei; the site says it has expanded its overseas network to five continents.
