The site states that, as a mutual organisation, it exists for the benefit of and is owned by its customers. It was established on 20 November 1964 in Wollongong as a credit union for Illawarra County Council employees, grew through transfers of engagements from other credit unions, and began trading as Horizon Bank on 2 September 2019. It offers everyday and savings accounts, youth accounts, an SMSF account, term deposits, home and investment loans, car and personal loans, a line of credit, a Visa credit card, insurance and foreign exchange and international money transfer services; accounts are managed through online banking, the mobile app and digital wallets.
