It was established in 1954 by CSIRO staff in North Ryde with about 30 members; today it serves more than 3,000 members beyond CSIRO staff and their families and says it focuses on scientists, researchers and people working in laboratories. LCU offers transaction and savings accounts such as the On Call Account, ESaver, Bonus Saver, Savvy Saver and a student account, fixed term deposits, home, investment, car and personal loans and international payment services. Accounts are managed through the mobile app, internet banking, ATMs, card services and the North Ryde office. The site stresses that callers always speak to a person rather than an automated phone system, that profits are returned to members and the community, and that it meets the same regulatory standards as the larger banks.
