According to its official website, Progressive Building Society was formed from the merger of five small societies and first opened its doors under the 'Progressive' name in 1914; it is a mutual building society based in Belfast that says it has no external shareholders and that every savings or mortgage customer is a member. It describes itself as Northern Ireland's largest locally owned financial institution, with 11 branches across Northern Ireland and almost 200 staff; its head office is at 33-37 Wellington Place, Belfast. For personal savers it offers online and branch instant access accounts, fixed rate bonds, Cash ISAs, regular savers, a first home saver account and children's accounts; for businesses it offers fixed and variable rate bonds, instant access and 90-day notice accounts.
