It was founded in 1971 as Clutha Employees Credit Union by a group of local miners and truck drivers working at the Clutha coal mines in Camden, became Macarthur Credit Union in 1978 to serve the wider community, and became The Mac in 2013. It describes itself as an ethical and transparent member-owned financial institution; it serves the Macarthur and Wollondilly regions with three branches in Camden, Picton and Tahmoor and a head office in Camden. Its products include everyday and savings accounts, eSaver, term deposits, accounts for children and young people, a business account, a Mastercard credit card, Cash Passport and foreign cash for travel, home loans, a new car loan and secured and unsecured personal loans.
