According to its official website, Earl Shilton Building Society (esbs) held its first meeting as the 'Earl Shilton Permanent Benefit Building & Land Society' on 17 December 1856 and has operated for over 160 years as a mutual working for people, not shareholders; its customers are members with a say in how it operates.
