According to its official website, Klarna is a digital payments and banking company founded in Stockholm in 2005 by three entrepreneurs under the name Kreditor and renamed Klarna in 2010; the group's parent Klarna Group plc listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: KLAR) in September 2025. In the United Kingdom, services are provided by Klarna Financial Services UK Limited (company no 14290857), based at 10 York Road, London. According to the Klarna balance and Klarna Card terms, this company is authorised by the FCA for consumer credit activities under FRN 987889 and for payment services and the issuing of electronic money under FRN 1021834; funds added to the balance are safeguarded under the rules for electronic money institutions. Individual customers are offered pay in 30 days and pay in 3 for in-store and online shopping (regulated as deferred payment credit from 15 July 2026), instalment financing, a Klarna balance topped up by debit card, the Klarna Card usable wherever Visa is accepted, cashback, monthly paid membership plans and buyer protection; everything is managed in the Klarna app. The site cites 120 million users and 1.2 million merchants.
