According to its official website, Leeds Building Society traces its origins to the Leeds Union Operative Land and Building Society formed in 1845, began in 1875 and has been a mutual owned by its members from the very beginning; it says it merged with Mercantile Building Society and became the UK's fifth largest building society. Its head office is at 26 Sovereign Street, Leeds. It offers Cash ISAs, fixed rate bonds, easy access, regular saver, online and children's savings accounts and Child Trust Fund accounts; its mortgage range covers fixed rate, first-time buyer, remortgage, home mover and buy-to-let mortgages, alongside home, landlord and life insurance. Accounts are managed through the online account; some easy access accounts and the ISA Saver can be opened with GBP 1. According to the Bank of England list and the FCA register, it is authorised by the PRA and regulated by the FCA and the PRA; the site states that its easy access accounts are protected by the FSCS.
