According to its official website, Taptap Send is a mobile app that lets people send money to relatives in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Latin America quickly and at low cost; it says it launched in 2018, serves millions of customers, operates in the United Kingdom, the US, Canada, Australia, the UAE and across the EU, and sends to more than 70 destinations. Recipients can receive the money in a bank account, a mobile money wallet or at cash pickup points. The company is a venture-backed start-up with investors including Reid Hoffman, the Omidyar Network and Helios. Services in the United Kingdom are provided by Taptap Send UK Limited, registered at Epworth House, 25 City Road, London; the site states that it is authorised by the FCA under the Electronic Money Regulations 2011 for the issuing of electronic money (FRN 900842). The licences page also lists licences from ASIC in Australia (AFSL 559468), the NBB in Belgium, the DFSA in Dubai, the Central Bank of Bahrain and the Central Bank of the UAE, state money transmitter licences in the US, and registrations with FINTRAC in Canada and the New Zealand financial service providers register.
